Volume calculator

Moving Volume Calculator

Estimate total moving volume from boxes, furniture, appliances and awkward items.

Conversions, presets and imports retain reference precision. Manually edited numbers use the normalised value shown. Unit preference is saved in this browser.

Box sizes used in this calculator

Reference L × W × H; dimensions vary by supplier. Volumes are calculated from the exact inch dimensions; metric dimensions and displayed volumes are approximate, not rounded calculation inputs.

Small, Medium and Large follow U-Haul’s published dimensions. Wardrobe is a MoveCalcLab planning reference, not a specific supplier model. Other specialty cartons should be measured separately. Compare box sizes and packing examples →

Assumptions used

Raw volume = box volume + each furniture/appliance category count × its per-item volume. Manual-box default: 0.085 m³ each; Small furniture 0.35, Large furniture 1.05, appliances 0.65, awkward items 0.45 m³ each. Box-mix mode uses exact inch reference dimensions. Total = raw volume × (1 + allowance); default allowance 15%.

How this calculator works

Choose a total count for a quick estimate or import the saved box mix when you know its sizes. Measure unusually large pieces and replace category averages before relying on the total. The allowance covers gaps and protection; it does not prove that a sofa will pass through a door or fit a vehicle opening.

How to use this estimate

Volume estimates are most useful when you measure unusual items and add an allowance for gaps between objects.

What can change the result

Measurements, provider specifications, packing style and local access conditions can all change the answer. Use the result as a planning range, then verify the actual vehicle, unit, product dimensions or supplier rules before you book or buy.

Planning note: Do not use this calculator as a substitute for payload limits, lifting guidance, building rules or professional quotations.
