Storage calculator

Storage Unit Size Calculator

Convert estimated belongings volume into a practical storage floor-area range.

Estimate storage floor area

Conversions, presets and imports retain reference precision. Manually edited numbers use the normalised value shown. Unit preference is saved in this browser.

Assumptions used

Floor area = volume ÷ ceiling height ÷ stacking efficiency × (1 + aisle allowance). Shared height reference: exact 8 ft, displayed 8 ft / 2.44 m. Defaults: 68% stacking, 10% aisle allowance. Select the next 25, 50, 75, 100, 150, 200, 250 or 300 sq ft nominal size; above 300, round up by 50 sq ft. Zero volume needs no unit.

How this calculator works

Start with the inventory volume, then allow for how you will stack it and whether you need to reach belongings during storage. The recommendation is a nominal floor size rather than a promise of fit. A low ceiling, deep shelving or furniture that cannot stack can make the next size more practical.

How to use this estimate

Storage estimates depend on ceiling height, how efficiently items stack and whether you need an access aisle.

What can change the result

Measurements, provider specifications, packing style and local access conditions can all change the answer. Use the result as a planning range, then verify the actual vehicle, unit, product dimensions or supplier rules before you book or buy.

Planning note: Do not use this calculator as a substitute for payload limits, lifting guidance, building rules or professional quotations.
