Packing Tape Calculator

Estimate tape length and roll count from your box count and sealing method.

Box sizes used in this calculator

Reference L × W × H; dimensions vary by supplier. Volumes are calculated from the exact inch dimensions; metric dimensions and displayed volumes are approximate, not rounded calculation inputs.

Small, Medium and Large follow U-Haul’s published dimensions. Wardrobe is a MoveCalcLab planning reference, not a specific supplier model. Other specialty cartons should be measured separately. Compare box sizes and packing examples →

Assumptions used

Tape length = boxes × tape per box × (1 + waste); rolls = length ÷ roll length, rounded up. Presets: Basic 5 ft (approximately 1.52 m), H-seal 7 ft (approximately 2.13 m), reinforced 10 ft (approximately 3.05 m) per box. Defaults: H-seal, 180 ft roll, 15% extra. Custom seam allowances are editable.

How this calculator works

Match the sealing style to the contents and carton construction, then check the length printed on the roll you will buy. Reinforcement and specialty boxes can use much more tape than a basic seal. Imported box counts save retyping; they do not decide which sealing pattern is suitable.

How to use this estimate

Packing estimates are starting points. Carton dimensions, item density and the way you seal or protect boxes change material use.

What can change the result

Measurements, provider specifications, packing style and local access conditions can all change the answer. Use the result as a planning range, then verify the actual vehicle, unit, product dimensions or supplier rules before you book or buy.

Planning note: Do not use this calculator as a substitute for payload limits, lifting guidance, building rules or professional quotations.
